Whats beyond the CCIE?

The responses that the OP's question have elicited are completely contrary to the question itself. I don't believe the original intent was to judge either the quality or difficulty of the CCIE in comparison to a post graduate degree. Instead I believe that the question should have been answered simply with the following:

"The CCIE is the highest level of certification for a Cisco network engineer, in the same way that a Ph.D is the highest level of achievment available for an academic track."

Of course with this thread being resurrected after nearly 5(!) years, this is no longer strictly true. We now have the CCA, which sits at the pinnacle of the proverbial Cisco pyramid.
