I wanted to know if there is a pattern in the IOS images file names?
or what do all these letters and nubmers stand for?

There is a Q&A and Product Bulletins on the Cisco IOS Packaging web page. There's even a document that walks you though the above picture one box at a time.

There was also one for the Switch IOS images in one of the bulletins on that Cisco IOS page I linked to.

I thought about posting it, but the color schemes clashed.
