Failed CCENT

in CCNA & CCENT
Ugh! I failed it, only garnering 766. The test really isn't that hard, as I nailed the first 10 questions within the first 5 minutes. But as overconfidence took a hold of me, I started to lose my focus. I finished the test in a little over an hour with all the bravado and fanfare I could muster alone in a little 5'x'8 test room (literally a door on one side, a pc on the other) and you could not believe how big of a donkey's behind I felt like when I saw that final score. I am so angry with myself!!! I know it's said time and again in the forums but please everyone, let this be another reminder. Do not take any test lightly, no matter how well you feel you're prepared!
On a lighter note, for everyone else studying for the 840-622, the test really is not difficult. My suggestion is to know how to subnet like a demon! I do about 15-20 questions a day off of subnettingquestions.com, and then play the subnetting game on cisco's test prepcenter at least once a day. Secondly, and I know it will probably sound redundant, but getting hands on experience is a must to pass with ease! It won't seem like anything is sinking in now, but continue to peck away at commands. Come test day, you're staring at the sim and there will be zero intimidation. Because you've stared at the same screen over and over. They do warn you that some functions are disabled for test purposes (and it did throw me a bit when certain commands didn't work) but if you put in a lot of time with equipment (real or simulator) then alternatives will pop into mind just as quickly and you'll be done soon enough. But most importantly, go in with a healthy respect for the test. Be a bit fearful, not afraid. Be confident, not overconfident. Come in with a level head, and go out with a pass. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to review while I wait the week cooling period.

thanks for the great insight because im currently working my way through the wendell book. Im just waiting for my crossover and serial cables to arrive so i can start my lab.
It looks like you've stated your downfall with confidence so just work at what your weak areas were go back for it.
im not too sure what to expect with it being (or will be) my first cisco exam so keep us posted because i would like to know how you got on. have you set a time to reschedule it?

SrAtechie Member Posts: 150 ■□□□□□□□□□Just an update to this post: I passed the CCENT exam today, with an 857. Not the score I was expecting, but seeing as I totally bypassed a simlet (I accidently clicked next instead of on the router sim screen and strangely enough, I wasn't prompted about whether or not I wanted to continue. In fact, none of my simlets or testlest gave me the warning. Must've been a glitch) I'm just glad to have passed and not have to pony up for another retake. Again, as I said in my previous post: take your time!Working on: Linux+, CCNP:Switch

Thanks for sharing your experience on failing / passing the exam....it does give great insight for someone like myself. I'm scheduled to take the CCENT on April 28th.
Can you tell me what the test format is like? How many questions and how much time? I've seen many variations on this...I'd just like to know from someone who's taken it.
As far as "Sim" type questions, are these a big enough part on the CCENT (first part of the CCNA) for me to focus study in typing in commands in a simulator? Or can knowing the commands be just as good?
I've been focusing a lot on subnetting...is this a good way to go?
Thanks!

Check the CCNA Exam Blueprints for the exam topics and what Cisco publishes about the number of questions and time. There is a quote from Cisco Certification Support (after the links to the Cisco NDA and Cisco Candidate Conduct Policy) which statesAs a matter of policy Cisco Systems, Inc. does not disclose the content of our certification exams. This includes exam pass marks, the exact number of questions on each exam, as well as the number of each type of question a candidate will see during their exam.

You need to 'know your stuff'. Mike has given you a response to this. I suggest you study hard.
