need advice!! have 250$ to spend

Hi i would like to see everyone advice for me here.
I currently have 250 bucks to spend on some cisco equipment.

So far this is what i have

3-2501
2-2611
1-catalyst 2924xl
1-catalyst 3016A Cat os

I was for sure going to get a 2950, but what model should i aim for? the 2950G, 2950T, ??

1 out of 3 2501's have full flash and dram
the other 2 have 16mb dram, and 8mb flash

1 out of the 2 2611's have 32mb dram and 8mb flash ----w/ wic-1t
the other 2611 has 48 mb dram and 8mb flash
w/o any wics or nm\s

After i purchase a switch, i was thinking of getting 2 nm-4a/s (one for each) becuase the nm-4a/s cost as much as wic-1t

the NM cost about 45 each,
I also am going to upgrade each and every router with max memory. ( how much does memory run)

so i should have around 70 bucks left before i purchase memory..

Any advice on what i should get such as WIC, and NM...

or any advice at all will help. am i going in the right direction?
thanks!

You want a 2950 -- pick the best one you can get at a good price. My first 2950 was also a 12 port model, so they work fine.

Since you already have a WIC-1T, you may just one NM-4A/S so you can use a 2611 as a Frame Switch.

Then you'd want to upgrade memory. Check the 2500 and see if they have one or two flash modules. If they have one, then you just need another 8meg module. If they have two modules, then they are 4meg and you need to get two 8 Meg modules to max out memory.

You'll want to upgrade the Flash on the 2611s, and probably the DRAM. You may be able to stay at 48 Meg on the one you use as your frame switch.

Make sure you have all your cables -- 1 each to the frame-realay switch/router and then one more for an ordinary serial PPP/HDLC between a couple 2500s.

Do you have the transceivers for the 2500s and ethernet cables? You may also want to get a few crossover cables (I go with RED for X-Overs) to connect the switches.

    =========================

Then -- depending on how your budget looks, then maybe the 2nd NM-4A/S or another WIC-1T and another back-to-back cable

    And/OR

If you can score a bargain on a 2924-XL-EN and you're still within budget, go for it.

    OR

If magic occurs and you can get a 2nd bargain 2950..... icon_eek.gif

For memory, try to stay with one vendor who combines shipping.

My main eBay memory supplier is Laserjet4you

My backup eBay memory supplier I think is olenak (or something like that).

    ok i have purchased a nm4-a/s and a cisco 2950-12 for a total of 160 bucks.

i currently have 149 bucks left!!!

i havent upgraded the ram/flash on any of my routers yet, but i could buy another 2950..
    what should i do???

i think i'll buy another 2950-12 (118 shipped) and try to max out one of my 2611 (29 bucks shipped)

    is this a wise choice???

or should i just max out all my routers first ( $80), and buy cables, and transceivers ($30 shipped) which leaves me with $ 39 buck left, and keep saving to buy a switch later??? or another nm-4a/s?

Well you could buy another 2950 if ya want. But keep in mind for routing, many of the features
covered in the CCNA is IP Plus or greater feature set. You need 64D/16F on 2600's to run
ip plus, or enterprise basic (your choice)
There is no place like 127.0.0.1

Hi. If you are going for your ccna make sure you have the ability to practice the SDM utility. I am not sure if what you listed already can since I am not all that familar with some of the models. Just something to think about. also, you may want to buy books, study packages (like chris bryant's or practice exams like boson, transcender) or videos to help round out your training.

    hope this helps!
    take care!
