in CCNA & CCENT
hey, I just saw a as5200 server and wanted to know if it will have any use for ccna or ccnp? Also I saw a 1900 switch that I wanted to buy but I didn't know how to connect to it. There was a serial console port on the back so I got a serial to serial cable and tried to connect to it that way but it didn't work. I tried to look it up on google but it would only give me the rj45 to db9 connection. Anyone know how to connect to a serial to serial console?
Booya!!

But you'd connect to it with a standard Cisco Console cable. Or you could a rollover cable and DB9-RJ45 adapter.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

i dont think that a as5200 server is necessary for your studies as for the 1900 switches they arent really used for the ccna exam. You may want to consider buying a 2950 switch which will be very sufficient.
Connecting the switch is fairly simple, if you want to console into the switch you can use a rollover cable which you connect from your pc to the switches console port -
jamesleecoleman Member Posts: 1,899 ■■■■■□□□□□what about a catalyst 5500-5000-5005 and a cisco 7500 router? I know this is off the topic heading but I just saw those too. I looked on ebay for 2950 switches and some different routers but I'm waiting until paypal to get done with the money transfer (tooo long of a process)Booya!!

Netwurk Member Posts: 1,155 ■■■■■□□□□□The 5000 series switches are outdated and run CatOS. The CCNA tests on IOS.
Also, a 7500 router is not the way to go in my opinion. They'll cost a lot to ship (they're huge) and most of them are outdated. -
