seems to be the same stuff just newer publication and a difference author. does anyone recomend one over the other and is there a difference?

They're different books. According to the Cisco Press website, the prep library is to initially learn it and the cert library is to revise for the exam.

The Odom Cisco Press Certification Library is the book recommended the most -- check the CCNA FAQ book section for the links. Most people will suggest the Odom books along with the Sybex book for the CCNA.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set!
