Did you exam the properties of the folder? It may be a shortcut to shut down the machine, and someone in the next cube might be laughing everytime you come to fix the machine. (Yes you can create these.)

icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif You mean someone testing his new invention.

Does it mean the computer works fine without touching the folder? I suggest you do an observation, cos several things can cause that. Try the user account on another pc.

    - the folder many be infected with a virus that triggers the shut down.
    - new processors automatically shutdown if temp. exceeds a threshold. check the cpu fan and power.
    - check the psu for correct voltages

don't forget to check who is watching u, it may as well be a prank!

I have totally freaked people out by randomly opening and closing their CD drive trays using the Computer Management snap-in. Netbus is also another pranking program that gives hours of fun, but don't use on a network guarded by IDS/IPS.

HAH @ NetBus. I used to use that one over the internet about 8 or 10 years ago to screw with people. icon_lol.gif Good times....didn't know netbus was still around.

I think it is a user issue. My tech and I just couldn't figure out what cause the problem. No, it is not he shut down shortcut. I hope that was that case because we all need a laugh, but it wasn't.

Another day of unresolve issue!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Have you been able to recreate the problem yourself, or is it a problem that a user is just reporting?

Aside from checking the obvious things... Re-image his PC.

Make sure other users can access the program from other PCs.

But you can't close it right..... I knew you could open the tray, just didn't know you could close it.

JD said it could close too, but I've never found Windows alone able to do that.

If you select eject again I'm pretty sure it closes it.

I did it, it works. Only funky thing was that I had to click eject like twice in a row sometimes due to the CDrom being so slow. This is Disk Management that I'm doing it in.

I'm pretty sure the Eject function passes a "open/close" parameter to the cdrom device. Just like the front button on the device.

I'll have to test it on other random computers. Just won't work on mine here at work.

It might depend on the drive as well. I couldn't do it either through computer management or my computer. I'm on Vista though, so I'm not sure if it behaves the same as XP.

Use "Connect to another computer ..." and the Eject feature on Disk Management to both open and close the CD tray.
