Preparring for 640-802, WAN/OSI related Question
Don 79 TA
Where in the OSI model would you say a WAN resides in (or operates in)?
I did a google search and found various information, so i am confused
i think network layer
but couldn't it also be data and physical as well?
I don't think it would be transport, because that refers to end-to-end communications
thoughts to help me comprehend this?

I think you are right. L3 because transport layers are not used (frames are never broken down that far) outside of hosts.
Kind of like the highway system(?) ....You don't see any gas station on the side of an interstate. The interstate is just used to travel long distances. I hope that made more sense to someone besides me.

No ur wrong a wan resides in osi layer 2 -1
ccnpninja
definitly layers 1 and 2.
WAN media are defined at layer 1 ( EIA/TIA V.35, RS-232,..) and WAN protocols at layer 2 (PPP, frame relay, )

According to
Cisco
, WAN connections generally reside on the physical and data-link layers. (I'm not going to go out on a limb and say that every WAN-related technology runs on layers 1 and 2, but the article goes in deep enough for your question, as well as anything you might see on the CCNA exam.)

Thanks for clarifying
I can see the data link and physical
but some reason it sticks in my head for network and transport
just gotta beat it out of my head
