I don't know about a website but I know you can get like Mavis Beacon or something like that and it will both test you for typing speed and it will also teach you how to type.

Haven't done any professional style of tests in a while but just hit 102 WPM on my laptop on that www.typingtest.com site that J0e posted using the Wizard of Oz for three minutes with 98% accuracy (would have been a little better if I knew I couldn't delete afte hitting space and could have ingrained it better in my brain).

I find that I type about 5-10 WPM faster on my desktop PC than on my laptop and I type substantially slower on an unfamliar keyboard if it is not a brand/shape I am used to. I also type a lot slower with e-mail or forum posts if the topic requires more thought as my brain doesn't quite keep up with my finger sometimes.

My typing speed's up aroud 70 - 75wpm. Of course, I spend a lot of time writing on here and in chatrooms. It's difficult to resist making jokes and quips while I'm chatting, so I have to be quick.

I'm sure someone already has a bot setup to hit speeds like that...unless this person is one there: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_is_the_fastest_typist_in_the_world

Well I got 10-15wpm on an iPod touch! icon_lol.gif

You have to keep pressing caps-lock for each new word!

I remember when I was in JH or HS that the teacher told us to type a paragraph and they can determine base on how far and how many error that you have..

I can typed up to 68 WPM..., now maybe 60 WPM...

I'm sure you can find something like online.

I got thrown out of typing class freshman year of high school because I took the mouse ball out of the Mac Classic and cleaned it out (which had never been done). The teacher said I destroyed the mouse, took me to the guidance counselor, and had me unenrolled from her class.

I was typing about 90 WPM at the time, but I lost my easy credit!

When I was in high school I was typing about 31 wpm. Now I'm averaging between 56 and 60. I guess it's the nature of my job and all the internet forum posting over the years. If I know what I'm typing ahead of time, I'm sure my wpm would be faster; I don't do as well with reading from a script and typing.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)

Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

40 wpm for me. If it only taught typing I might be able to go faster one day.

Oh, who am I kidding; I should just go buy a discount copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking off eBay Express instead.

I would love to hear you do your programming with that. "if, left parenthesis, voice, underscore, recognition, equal sign, equal sign, single quote, annoying and difficult, single quote, right parenthesis, enter, left curly bracket, enter, tab, goto, keyboard, semicolon, enter, right curly bracket."

I think that would be really cool to program by voice--but only if I could do it in Klingon:

De'wI' ghun 'ogh C# nuq? nuq? nuq? ghuy'cha' tob qa'vIn QAPLA'!!

That'd sure scare the Hell out of my co-workers in the surrounding cubicals.

When I first started working tech support I was amazed at how many people did not know how to type. It completely put into perspective all the whining and complaining about typing up case notes. If they would just learn to type, much less learn to type while talking to the customer, they would have had plenty of time to sit and relax before the next call!
