Hello there

I just started studying for my ccent, i really love networking.

I decided to get a home lab, this is what i figured and I would just like some feedback as to weather I am paying too much and if my lab is ok for the ccna.

2 12 port 2950 switches total of $230 includes the shipping

3 2610 routers 64 ram 16 flash $250 ... including shipping

So what do you guys think,,, too much money...missing something....

The 2950's seem like a fair deal

If you are getting three routers, 2610's are OK - but you might want to get a wider variety of models that give you more flexibility

    some models to consider

2514 - low cost 2500 with two ethernet interfaces
2621 - most costly than the 2514, but gives you two fast ethernet interfaces
2520 - has four serial ports, good for frame relay labs

Keep in mind that with most of the 2500s you will need transceivers for the ethernet ports

Most 2600s that don't have XM after the model number only have 10mb interfaces

Exceptions are 2620, 2621, 2650, 2651 (they are all fast eth)

only the 2610, 2611, and 2612 have 10Mbps Ethernet. Another non-XM is the 2691, with 2 FEs and an extra WIC slot.
Buying hardware for a home lab is addicting-- (Need.. more.. toys...) **(need.. more.. money)

You'll also want a router that can run SDM -- there's a link to the supported routers in the I want to setup my own home lab what should I buy and how do I set it up? section of the CCNA FAQ

Another thing to consider is that the 2600XMs can also run 12.4 and 12.4T. The plain 2600s aren't officially supported.
