windows XP reload config question
I recently reloaded a windows box for a friend. They gave me an unopened copy of Windows XP which i put on the box.
THe version I used is xp home.
Now after the install and a reboot I get the option to boot into xp home or xp media center.
I formated the drive during install (yes I know data can be left), but I had no idea media center existed anywhere on the box.
So how do I get rid of the media center stuff?
I don't want to have to pick between home and media center during boot, I want to boot directly into xp home.
Sorry I am a linux/unix guy, so sorry for all the dumb questions!

Does it boot into Media Centre when the option is choosen?
Just wondering if you install Media Centre Edition do you have the boot options for XP Home incase you dont require the interfaces/changes etc when you log in for whatever reason?Foolproof systems don't take into account the ingenuity of fools -

Good question...
I will have to check and see...
You would think that the boot.ini would have gotten overwritten during the new install.
The only thing I can think of is that I have to switch the bios from AHCI to ATA in order to get the OS to recognize the drive.
Perhaps this change caused some data to still reside on the hard drive? It was XP before the reload, but it was so horked up that it barely booted. That is what I nuked and paved the system.encrypt the encryption, never mind my brain hurts. -

liven Member Posts: 918The media center stuff must have come from the disk I installed. The hard drive is showing no partitions for any other operating system. So not really sure where it came from.
Also during the install of XP I deleted all partitions and reformatted.
I will just adjust the boot.ini and see what happens.
thanks again.encrypt the encryption, never mind my brain hurts. -

Do you test the Media Centre Boot Option?Foolproof systems don't take into account the ingenuity of fools -
