MCSA 2003 and COMPTIA ELECTIVES

Do you need A+ and Network+ or just the latest vesion of network + for your MCSA 2003 elective?

I have a friend who only took network plus, but on his microsoft transript it has him down for both A+ and Network+ thats why I ask.
