need info for mcsa lab

hi guys
i want to know about vmware. how can i use this for my mcsa lab. i don't know, what is the difference between vmware esx server and workstation. which is good for lab practice.
i want step by step procedure for setting a lab with vmware. What is the minimum requirement of Ram and processors.
