USB Drives

In my company, Windows configures the removable drive with a drive letter that conflicts with a network drive. This problem of course goes away when I login as the admin and configure it to have a different drive letter. Additionally, this happens only to people who are non-IT. We have XP Pro SP2 computers across the domain. We did a recent refresh on most computers, so most now are Intel Core Duo, 2.66 Ghz, 1 GB RAM.

Anyone else seen the same thing at their workplace? Would this have something to do with some patches being deployed? (incidentally I am also the patching administrator)
NSX, NSX, more NSX..
