Hi guys,

First of all this forum and the people on it that contribute to it are great. I am going for my first CERT ... obviously Sec+.

Currently i am a student at NJIT and just took finished a course on Fundamentals Networking and Security (basically Sec+) ... the professor recommended that we take the exam this summer since it is fresh in our head.

Books:
Security+ Guide to Networking Security Fundamentals
http://www.amazon.com/Security%2B-Networking-Security-Fundamentals-Second/dp/0619215666/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211423592&sr=1-1

SYNGRESS Secuirty+
http://www.amazon.com/Security-Study-Guide-Training-System/dp/1931836728/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1211423535&sr=11-1

My first question is, is there a student version of this test, so its cheaper?
Second question, the new exam will not be in effect until fall 08 right? so they are still using the 07 objectives? so basically is it 07 or 08 objectives, if we plan to take the exam this summer?

Thanks for your help

You should find out if your school is a CompTIA member. Otherwise I think your in it for the full $250 USD or whatever it is (even if they are you'd still only get ~$50 off).

from what I have been told this book is the top notch for security+...

As for the student edition I took those versions for Net+ and A+ through my school, but I believe you may need you school to schedule those with a voucher. I'm not sure exactly but I do remember the tests being only 80 questions rather then 100.

    Thanks guys.

So basically you would not be able to take the student version of the exam unless your school offers it? ... is there anyway that i can tell CompTIA that i am a student so they would let me take the student verison.?

also the current tests are still 07 objectives, right? because 08 objectives are out but the test are not out until fall... am i correct?

Unless your school or company has a CompTIA Corporate Membership then no you would have to pay the full price for the exam.
