In the UK i found there to be quite a difference between prices. In fact around £30-£50's difference.

Have a shop about and see what the prices are like. If there's not much in it then a 24 port will be great but honestly you can get by on a 12 porter. i have 2 and there are more than enough for a lab environment.

i got my 2950-12 for 90 buck... both of them were 90 each

and 2924 keep going for like 150-160

personally if you can afford a 24 port , get it..

but for home labs i pretty sure the 2950-12 will suffice

Just don't get the 2924. Make sure it's a 2950-24 if you want more ports.

For a home lab, 12 ports should be fine. Any lab that needs more than 12 ports is going to have more than one switch, so you usually never run out of ports.

I guess the question is how far do you want to go with your cert. For CCIE I would get the 24 port but for CCNA or NP the 12 is good
