If you have patience and free time, I recommend the Exchange Server 2003 Resource Kit. Even if you don't want to read it cover-to-cover, it is a useful reference to help improve any weak areas.
If you are just looking for a study guide, then try the Sybex 70-284 Study Guide. I used it for both 284 and 285. I read some very bad reviews on the MS Press 284 training kit so I stayed away from it. Perhaps someone here can verify if the MS Press book is useful or not.
You could also look into the free e-Learning course offer from Microsoft. I used that offer to get their 70-285 course and went through it to prepare for 285. I don't know if they are including a 284 course in the free offer, but even the 285 course would help with 284.
Is there a particular reason you're not pursuing 70-236 (Exchange 2007) instead?
I want to use 2003 and 2007 exchange as my 2 electives for MCSE Messaging. Also because i know that 2003 is the current and having both will help me land that job that is currently running 2003 but plan to migrate in the near future.
