Multiple desktops

When I attach the external monitor to my computer, the option to define separate desktops displays does not appear. Is it because I do not have a driver or it would be fine to enable Presentation Power Scheme on the computer?

Windows will extend or mirror your desktop onto the other monitor. You can't natively have separate desktops in Windows. I know nVidia has software that provides additionally functionality, and ATI or other 3rd parties might have something as well.
