Vista Service Pack Issue when installed

Okay so here is my problem but first let me give you a little background on my setup.

I currently have a Cisco 2610 Router and a 2924 Switch setup. Attached to that switch is my 2003 Server which is doing DHCP and DNS for me.

When i install Vista Service Pack 1 on my Vista x64 Business machine my internet connection will go away and i can no longer get on the internet. For some reason it cant find a connection to the internet and the globe goes away on the network icon. I have tried this a few times with the same results each time. As soon as i uninstall the service pack my internet starts working again.

Does anyone have a clue to why this is happening.

Is your Vista machine a DHCP client? What's the output of ipconfig and what happens when you do an ipconfig /renew? Are you able to communicate with other machines on your lan? How are you trying to access the internet (IE, Firefox, etc.)?

If you look in device manager after you install the service pack does your NIC still show up?

In addition to the other questions and especially check on ipconfig. Are you able to ping the router? Are you able to ping beyond the router?

Check if your NIC vendor has updated drivers necessary for SP1. If not, it might be fixed by simply deleting the network connection and the NIC device and re-adding them while SP1 is installed.
