They're letting you use the SND (for a limited time) or the CCNA:S to get into the CCSP.

Do you think the CCNA:S is basically going to be SND? That's kind of what the overview looks like. Here's SND for comparison.

Does anyone know how much content is in these new certs? are they the same size of the ccna as a whole? or are they the equivalent to icnd1 or 2?

I would be inclined to believe that it will have more of an "overall CCNA" volume of material. They'll probably be a bit more difficult than the CCNA to be honest. The further you get into a technology the more detail you get. I suspect that these exams will be pretty tough compared to the CCNA.

Paul and networker, thanks for the replies, it would make sense.

I wonder why they havent went for a naming convention like CCVA or CCSA?

Either way i will be looking forward to them to see what there like.

I love how Blog Spot (a part of Blogger) in general is now considered spam and gets blocked. Google sure has made a mess of things since their acquisition. :)

I agree, Chris Bryant should host his blog on his own website so we can link to it on TechExams without it getting censored. ;)
I always use tinyurl.com when posting links to blog articles on Blog Spot. Many good and informative blogs are hosted on that site.

Yeah, but on the flip side, many **** and **** blogs exist there. And those sites can last for months at a time before they are eventually removed -- only to spring up again with the exact same content a couple days later.

I'm not sure I'd call it a fight.... but I've only found one blog worth reading on a regular basis.

    :D

To get back on topic...... how about those changes on the Cisco Web Site! It looks like the dust is finally settling on all the changes.

I haven't check the Cisco Certification Manager yet to see if there are new empty check boxes on my Certification Progress page..... until now. ARGH!!!!!! 4 empty check boxes now instead of just the one CCENT check box!!!! ARGH!!!

I know, but you can't blame me for trying to be an instigator. An all-out mod war would be intense!

If I wanted to get involved, I'd say something like, "if you call 2-3 months regular", but I can be banned easy, so I'll just keep that to myself.

What the heck are you doing posting on here then. Get back to work! The one checkbox that's been laughing at you for a year just spawned 3 children. Wait too much longer and they might each have 3 kids. ;)

Just out of curiosity, are there going to be new forums created here for the various new tracks or are they going to be lumped into the CCNA general forum?

Still no word on the books... ciscopress.com is stating the same thing and amazon doesn't have em. I emailed the support address for cisco press to find out but no response so far... I really would love to get the Security book and crank that out over the next 2 months. Come on CISCO! Lets get a move on it!

You could probably start out with the books that were recommended for the SND exam the objectives look very close if not the same. Of course dynamik made a thread about the resources already so here just go look at his, sometime I wonder if he ever spends time away from the forum. icon_wink.gifhttp://techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31946

Definitely a good tip, thanks! I was wondering if some of this material may have changed from those books vs today. They were all published in 2004 so it makes me a little uneasy to heavily invest in something I am not sure will be exactly what I need for this exam...

Yea, they look pretty similar. I had another post with a comparison of the objectives: http://www.techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=233038#233038

well im gonna go bag all 3 of these.....

ill be starting with voip seeing as ive just blagged the following kit
MCS 7800 server, 2800 gateway and a 3750G together with the following phones 7961, 7941 and 7911 on loan from cisco for the next 3 months or so.....

add in the 30day eval IP communictor (soft phone)

I should be able to sit the exam in a couple of months icon_smile.gif I hope !

I don't see a UC500 in your kit list -- which is the only piece of hardware the 640-460 IIUC Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications Exam seems concerned that you learn hands-on.
    # Configure UC500 device parameters
    # Configure UC500 network parameters
    # Configure UC500 dial plan and voicemail parameters
    # Configure UC500 SIP trunk parameters
    # Configure UC500 voice system features
    # Configure UC500 user parameters

The only other Configure task in the list of exam topics is
Configure switched infrastructure to support voice and data V

I did check eBay for the UC500s, and there were only 2 availalbe starting around $1650-1700 -- and that's more than I spent on my entire CCVP lab icon_eek.gif

I've looked at the UC500 specs in the past -- so maybe that 2800 could stand in since I doubt they are changing the IOS Voice Configurations just for the UC500.

I find it odd that the UC500 is the only "configure" part for the exam. I have never even touched one of these before. Hopefully you are right about the IOS commands being the same or I don't think I will look into this exam.

Looking at the Cisco website, the new exams will not renew your CCNA. Might just be an omission on Cisco's part but it still says to renew your CCNA you need to take the current CCNA/ICND2 exam or professional series exam.

"CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam, or pass any 642 professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE written exam."

Does any one know whether this is the case?

I would like to renew my CCNA using the security exam, I was going to do the CCSP SND exam but don't really want to go professional as I do not work with the technology that often.

I wondered about this too, seen some of the other replies regarding the professional track etc.

I'm not sure it makes sense that these exams do not renew vanilla CCNA. I think Cisco need to clarify this somewhere in the certification section.

The vanilla CCNA is a pre-req and valid for 3 years therefore if you pass the CCNA - security, voice or wireless 1 day before you vanilla CCNA expires you are only actually certified for a day in wireless, voice or security?

That can't be right can it? icon_rolleyes.gif

Cisco hasn't figured out where to put the CCNA Wireless on the Main Cisco Certification page, so I'm sure they are still working some kinks out.

But if you take the exam 1 day before your CCNA expires, you still meet the prerequisite and would earn the CCNA Specialization. Since the CCNA Voice and CCNA Security are the new prerequisites for the CCVP and CCSP respectively (and the only option after June 24th 2009), you would still be good to go for the Professional Level Certifications.

I personally think it would make sense to have the CCNA Specialization Tracks also recertify the plain ordinary common mere little CCNA.

ah well spotted ive not read through the full requirements yet....

anyways ive received this respone from a guy i know at cisco who specialise in voice

"No sorry the Commands on UC500 are I believe based on Call Manager
Express. UC 500 is a dedicated Telephony appliance. No routing. But
uses some of the code base from Call Manager Express (CME) IOS CLI.

There is no reason why you could not configure CME on that router you
have (you'll have to try out the CLI_ - out of hours and then restore
the config to E1 for the day if you like. "

so looks like I've got summit to work with..... least ill see how i can get on....

I foresee subforums given that each subject is pretty broad and there are subforums for the various professional level certs.

Man.. MS sucks. I can read this one online as soon as it's announced, but I can't read the new MSTS/MCITP stuff even though it's been on bookshelves for months? Weak.
