basic network troubleshooting for XP

Morning all ...
I am searching for some material to show normal users how to troubleshoot if they have a network problem.

We are here working in a very big company (+10000) and we are only 12 people to check and repair if there is any kind of problem related to network.

Any link/help is really appreciated :)

Thanks in advance.

Are you guys the network team or just 1st level Service Desk? If you're not SD do they do any troubleshooting before throwing those kinds of tickets at you guys?

Depends what access they have and whats tied down

    Things to try:

    Ping by hostname
    Ping by IP address
    Ping loopback
    Ping default gateway
    Ping another machine on subnet
Check IP address (Not APIPA etc)

(replace ping with tracert/pathping where nessicary)

Depends how indepth you want them to go?? But these are a good place to start for none techies.
Foolproof systems don't take into account the ingenuity of fools
