Well there is still a one exam approach available or you can break it up into 2 exams and earn the CCENT along the way. Mostly it depends on your comfort level with the material.
There are also now some newly added CCNA specialties in Security, Voice, and soon Wireless, but they require passing the basic CCNA exam first.
