First day on the job

Well I'm on the sales floor at Circuit City for 30 days until I can hit the "bench." And if you've ever seen the 40 year old virgin, the store acts the same way. There is one Firedog guy that is about eh, 25 years old and he knows his stuff and how to sell. I mean I watched this guy spit out about 30 minutes of information in 10 minutes... It's amazing how much bs is throw around by some of these other sales associates, I mean they're not even working off commission! All in all it is not bad, I'm still looking for some phone calls after the holiday weekend.

Unless you count raises, promotion, or just not being fired as commission.

Also, if you're a dud on the floor, then they know you wont sell grandma $400 worth of crap she doesnt need.

Actually the managers are WAY to relaxed/chill. If I was appointed manager I would instantly fire about 70% of the associates right off the bat. The only thing I can agree on is you will not get raises if your a "dud" on the floor, but I mean come on it is a retail store and raises come once or twice a year and it's 15-30 cents...

Did I mention I didn't get drug tested...

Oh, and I didn't mean they BS because they are trying to make the sale, it's because they have no idea what the heck they are talking about.

I've noticed this as well, the closest circut city is a bit far away and so I'll drop by best buy every once in a while. Either way the experience is the same, walk in the door, sales guy jumps me, trys to sell something, tells me all about it, 1/2 of which is false informaiton and then I try to get what I needed and get the hell out.

Granted this isn't the experience all the time, but sadly 99% of the time it is. I haven't talked with anybody on the firedog team, but if its anything like geeksqad just shoot me now.

Just remember jryantech, you don't have to be that average ass of a sales guy, you can be better. Plus your only there to get experience, the measly raises they will throw your way won't mount up to crap.

Does anyone else ever track other customers down just to correct whatever misinformation was given during their encounter with a sales person?

Do your time man, in and out. Focus on what they can do for YOU. What experiences would make good conversations or entries on your resume or doing the interview down the road.

HAHA, awesome shirt, makes me think of my landlord, everytime he see's me, which is often, I live on his property, yet another reason I'm looking forward to moving, he hits me up about some web hosting crap and hints strongly at me doing it for him. Why does everybody think that if you work with computers you must know how to do everything that involves a computer??

Oh hell yes, it is hard to resist correcting a retarded sales person when they give the "low-down" on the "best" HD TV or the "fastest video card", it seems to be that the conversation from the sales person is usually filled with the work "sick" multiple times to describe the performance of a peice of hardware, why is that? But anywho, I digress, not only to I inform the mis-informed customer but I try to do it when the sales person is giving their spill, the look on the sales person's face is priceless!

Usually my wife is with me at stores like this and I get that look when I am about to go into battle, then I have to decided if sleeping on the couch is worth it. It is a comfy couch though.

Is it a good idea to put that you worked in one of these places on your cv?. I am just getting into tech stuff and from what I have just read I dont think I would bother.

I love screwing with sales people like that, especially if they come up to me. A former used car salesman techie person (me) can have quite a bit of fun with a dumb tech sales person.

I have done this a few time at PC World here in the UK, though I try and avoid saying I entered the place to start with.

Usually I just go to look at things I need and get them elsewhere when I have found what I want and thats only on a very few occasions.

I do like to confuse the 'Tech' Guys there thou by asking them questions
