Just researching on CCNP study materials and found what I think is a pretty good deal for all 4 Ciscopress CCNP books.

Should I snap thi up now or is this about the going price for this lot? (£77.99, save £52.00)

No. You can buy it from the ciscopress.com site and get it shipped over from the US and it'll come out cheaper. Reading books are zero rated for VAT. Thats assuming you buy only reading books though. If you buy anything else then they'll start charging you and usually will do the complete order total.

You also usually get 30% off coupons from the ciscopress.com site once you've made your first order so you might want to split out *shrug*

Buy them used via amazon.co.uk or the half.com UK equivalent. There's no point in buying these books brand new. People hardly ever treat them poorly and they're durable anyway.

The only time I buy a brand new book is when its first (or new) edition and I have to have it ASAP. Curse the textbook industry for releasing new editions annually icon_rolleyes.gif

    malcybood,

Based on my experience, the "good deal"ness of a certification library completely depends on if you can complete ALL of the exams covered in ALL volumes of the certification library before an unspecified and unknown date in the future when SOME or ALL exams in the CCNP certification track covered by the certification library gets updated to a new exam number. So if you can complete ALL of the exams before the exam(s) update date, then it's going to be a good deal. However, the volumes in the certification library related to the exams that changed before you can take them will end up just collecting dust and therefore a relatively bad deal compared to if you purchased the volumes individually relevant to the exam that you're currently studying for. Besides, if you pass any of the exams related to the CCNP certificate, you will receive credit for the CCNP if you passed the exam before retirement. So, I'd vote against the Exam Certification Library. As you may or may not know, the Self-Study Guides attempt to "teach" the material and the Exam Certificiation Guides attempt to "test" you on the material. Therefore, I vote that you should get the Self-Study Guide for the specific exam you're studying for instead.

Good point, TA. I purchased the previous version of the CCDA's book about six months before it became the 863. I didn't have time to prepare for the CCDA exam in time so I wound up wasting $50 on a book for an exam that didn't apply any more. Lesson learned. Only buy books for exams you can feasibly sit.
