I do not know from personal experience, but my gut tells me that the level of the material that is included in the CCNA Specialty exams is probably along the lines of the level covered in some of the various exams along the way to the CCNP or perhaps almost equivalent to one of the exams in the professional level security, voice, and of course there is no wireless pro cert yet.

The best thing is to look at the blueprints and compare and contrast. icon_wink.gif
    I usually hang out on 224.0.0.10 (FF02::A) and 224.0.0.5 (FF02::5) when I'm in a non-proprietary mood.

I've read the CCNA-Security book and it's much less specific and detailed than the CCSP material. Naturally the associate-level certification is going to be a fraction of the professional level. Just like the CCNA is a good path to the CCNP, the specialized CCNA certifications will be a good path to their respective higher-level certs.

I've been wondering about this myself. I did the CCNA, and I was disappointed by the fact that there was no mention of firewalls, when understanding and being able to configure firewalls is pretty much critical in today's world. So, I figured my next step would be the CCSP, although to be honest, I didn't want to go all the way to the Professional level Certification. I looked at the CCNA: Security, and I didn't see much about configuring Firewalls from command line, so I was wondering if the CCNA: Security will really teach me enough of what I need to know where firewalls are concerned.

The CCNA:Voice seems to be more of a speed bump on the path to the CCVP. You learn some basic voice and how to configure the new Cisco Unified Communication 500 Series devices.

You have less than a year now (until June 24, 2009) to use your CCNA as a prerequisite for the CCVP, so if you can start and finish it in that time, then you don't need the CCNA:Voice.

    No.

If you want to learn about firewalls, you need to take the 642-523 SNPA now, or 642-524 SNAF Securing Networks with ASA Foundation and 642-515 SNAA Securing Networks with ASA Advanced later.

IOS Firewall and features are in 642-503 SNRS Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches

    Mike,

When you going to get your CCENT, I see all of the cisco certs but that one. Come on you can let that one get away.

I was thinking about doing both the Network+ and ICND1 exams (for the CCENT) in December when we do the holiday change freeze -- should have lots of time then. Plus I might also try for the CCNA:Security, and maybe the CCNA:Voice. :D

I think I already mentioned it in another thread -- I'm hoping to also be wearing a CCIE tee-shirt when I take the ICND1 exam icon_lol.gif

I would love to see peoples reaction as you walk in to take your CCENT wearing a CCIE shirt.

I would be surprised if any non-technical person knew what the CCIE is. Hell, I don't think even some IT people would know what it is.

Theres a good chance that if you go take a test at a center that offers training, there will be someone there wondering why someone is wearing a ccie shirt taking the ccent.

Since most people I've run into at the test centers have been taking MS, Cisco, CompTIA, or Citrix exams -- and the test centers are usually crowded in December around the holidays -- I figure I'd run into at least 1 or 2 CCENT/CCNA candidates both before and after my exam. :D

    Mike,

When you were leaving and saw a CCENT candidate, you could be like man that test was the worst one and see what there reaction was. That would really mess with them. Wait when I try for my ccent/ccna in the next year or so, that would really freak me out if I saw a guy wearing a ccie t-shirt and telling me that test was hard. I would proably leave the center and go study more. lol

Good luck on the CCIE Mike. I would be interseted on learning more about the CCNA voice cert, as one of the networking team leaders at my work told me that the main workload within networking at the moment comes from administering Cisco Unified Comms Manager. Anyone taken this exam? It's a little way down the road for me, I haven't even got CCNA yet, but interseted in hearing from someone who has done it.
