Is this how cisco is going to tackle dynamips??
I wonder why they are not supporting these anymore....

astorrs Member Posts: 3,139 ■■■■■■□□□□From what I see there the 7200's are still okay, so dynamips is off the hook for a little while longer.

scheistermeister Member Posts: 748 ■□□□□□□□□□I still don't see what the big deal would be. It isn't like you HAVE to have the newest and greatest IOS to study for any of the Cisco stuff and I doubt you will need the latest and greatest for quite some time.Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

mgeorge Member Posts: 774 ■■■□□□□□□□I would guess that this is one of Cisco's move to making a new license model for IOS Software. 12.5 May contain the "activation" feature for feature sets. There is no place like 127.0.0.1

nullrouter Member Posts: 52 ■■□□□□□□□□This is just gear that's being end of life - you don't need to use 12.4 to do CCIE study... 12.2 is fine, most defaults have been set for atleast a few IOS revisions that could majorly affect your lab. At the moment Cisco doesn't care too much about dynamips. The only people that are is CertGuard because it breaks NDA according to them, and a small number of older CCIEs because more people are getting their numbers thanks to the software emulator.

EdTheLad Member Posts: 2,111 ■■■■□□□□□□Why do you assume Dynamips is a big problem for Cisco?
The more people comfortable with Cisco IOS the better it is for Cisco.
Those platforms mentioned by the original poster are old and are being phased out, like all older platforms that came before they are being phased out, how do Cisco phase a product out? stop implementing new features, keep creating maintenance releases to fix bugs for current customers for a certain time until the product hits end of life. This is the same for every vendor.
Next generation cisco ios is modular, it looks more like c++ than ios, i doubt the anyones losing sleep over dynamips.Networking, sometimes i love it, mostly i hate it.Its all about the $$$$ -
