bradtechonline Member Posts: 63 ■■□□□□□□□□Congrats.. I didn't get a perfect score but got an 880. I had no clue what they were asking on a bullshit question today.. Something about what device I should add to a machine going to be used for a projector, and it had USB Mouse, RAM, and two other BS questions.. I was just like huh? No question about video cards or certain display adapters.. Just an open ended weird question.. I'm sure I must have brain farted or just flat out didn't know .Working On:

Just took the A+ Essentials and IT option. Saw that same question and I have never heard of that either. I did 2 week study and got a 840 1st test and 839 on 2nd. One question that got me because I didn't know the name was the IP 169.254.x.x question. Called APIPA and happens when no DHCP server can be found. Good luck to all taking the test and I found that practice exams helped a lot. -

Stupid employers don't recognize a real degree such as mine.

That is a 4 year degree not a 1 month baby study about pci cards and cd-roms.Anyways, I will get all the certs I can get, I'm taking 3 certifications this month:XP

mamono Member Posts: 776 ■■□□□□□□□□It is the department management that sets the standards, it is the HR department that pre-screens and filters all the applicants prior to the department management ever seeing those resumes and applications. Don't have the certs, the people that make the decision to whether to hire won't see that resume or application because it won't get past the HR screening process. Degrees are important, but so are certifications. Each serves a different purpose, they are not all the same and shouldn't be compared that way.

Nerd_Soon Banned Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□mamono I never belittled anyone. you have a lot of certs.
How you study for them? I am taking notes on a notebook as I read and doing end of chapter labs.
Also any advice on how to start getting IT experience. I have no experience. -
mamono Member Posts: 776 ■■□□□□□□□□Primarily self study, I like to read either at home, a cafe, or wherever I get a chance.
1) Read the book, chapter by chapter.
2) Complete the labs.
3) Complete the practice questions, get 70% or higher to move one. Review all the topics that are wrong prior to moving onto the next chapter.
4) After completely reading the book, go through an assessment test. Find weak areas.
5) Re-read the book, skimming over areas you're strong and focus on weak areas.
6) Run through practice exams, shooting for 90% or higher.
7) Take exam.
Bite the bullet and get an entry-level position. This will allow you to obtain experience. Once in the company and having learned/excelled at all your duties, let your boss know that you are ambitious and want more responsibility in the areas that you have interest in. He will either let you shadow someone or will give you tasks that are related. Once you are comfortable with the duties of a higher position and have been there a while, move up and climb the ladder.
