Your New IT Position in July?

TechJunkyTechJunky Member Posts: 881
I was just curious who here has taken on a new job in July, weather it be a promotion or a new job all together.

I will put myself down first.

Systems Administrator
Location: Anchorage, AK

This would be fun to have each month, so we can see how people are moving into new roles and where they may be located. It would also keep the thread all in one place, making it easier to track a single thread in the month.

Ok, keep them coming.

It's a cool idea, I hope some of the others post! Unfortunately I won't make the July cut but maybe August or September.

Well, I actually got offered the job mid June, but didn't start 'til July. Close enough.

Congrats to you, by the way.

I've been offered the job and HR should be calling soon with a wage offer.

Hey guys, just a suggestion, it would be great if you guys could put your work experience and qualifications as well, so that those of us looking to make our way up, and seeing the jobs you've landed would have some idea of what is required. It really would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

I don't know if this qualifies as a new job for July but I just landed a two year contract with Chevron to do their Vista migration for the whole corporation. Start August 1st though.

In keeping with what the poster above suggested:

    - a little bit of tech school (studying IT Network Security) and got A+ but I've decided to stop going there due to cost and will go to community college to transfer for four year degree...sadly I want to look at mechanical engineering degree haha

    - a year doing IT relocations for some company

    - two months repairing PC's at Fry's Electronics (I didn't do anything at all except reinstall Windows, virus removals, and hardware/software installs 'cause I was such a n00b)

    - finishing a 900 hour contract for helpdesk/desktop support at a local UC college (very fun and I learned a lot)

Though with my last contract and this current contract I think I really just got lucky. There's way smarter people out there than me icon_sad.gif

Brad you don't even have Mobile listed as your location. How is life in the Colbert Nation.

jworley, I'm curious as to where you got the job, if you don't mind me asking. I work for a company subcontracted by Mobile County to do hardware/software management and development. I also work a few hours a week for Televox Software.

I just landed a job at Johnson & Johnson delegating IT work to the technicians on site. I would rather be on the Tech side than the delegating side. Job starts this monday so i am super excited. I have not been in the IT field for quite a few years but have a solid work history doing IT related jobs.

Isn't that a step up from being a field guy? It seems like management and scheduling will lead to better things faster. Congratulations.

I have to wake up every morning at 3AM, then ride my bike to work. I usually arrive at 4:30AM which gives me 30 minutes to prepare. I then walk around a giant building checking on all the computer equipment. By 9AM(when I start ticketing duties) my legs are killing me.

This job was suppose to change today...they were going to move me to a desk and have me just work tickets, and I could come in at 8AM. :D

Unfortunately, I've been informed that I've done such a good job that they are extending this work through the rest of the year.

Not really in July, just had second interview this morning and they offered me the job this afternoon.
I am so stoked, just graduated in May with AAS in Computer Systems Technologies and have no work experience till now. Finally, a company willing to take a chance on me and for me to show them what I got. Only way to go now is up, up, up!

Don't you just love the freshness of a new job. Remember though. if it's not where you finally want to be, prepare yourself to make another move again in 18 months - 2 years or you could be hit by the interview question i got hit with once,,,, "what's wrong with you that you stayed in that job for so long" - gobsmacked by that one !

I will add myself to the July list - Datacenter Communications Manager ... let me think .... Christmas 09 .... ummm ... not a good time .....
