Second Interview with the Director

I had an interview for a Network Operator position yesterday and I received a call from HR asking me to go to a second interview with the director. On my first interview, the HR Manager told me that they are going to narrow down the candidates for a second interview with the Director. I wonder what kind of question should I expect to get from the department director.

Forgot to add, I had the interview with the HR Manager and then the IT Manager plus two network operator, and that was done yesterday, so it is actually my third interview.

From my experience the interview with the director is usually more of a formality than anything technical. They usually ask some easy HR type questions. I would be prepared for anything though as all companies are different.

That has been my experience too. If you made it past the HR and the "peer" interviews, then you're most likely on the inside track.

Make sure you have done your research on the company and the place you will be working. Can't hurt to take a look at some websites for questions they like to ask in an interview either. Showing that you have done your homework, shows your more interested than the other candidates.

I can't wait for the interview. I ram really excite abut this job, not because the great pay but because of the experience. By the way, it is for Columbia University.

I'd like to add that someone with a Director title is very likely to be very business oriented rather than technically oriented. The may also be more impressed with your ability to communicate intelligently, then the technical skills you have.

I've been in the industry since the early 70s, and this has been my experience.

I have couple questions. I wear a suit with a white shirt and a black stripe tie for my first interview. Should I wear the same suit with a blue shirt and a blue stripe tie for my second one? Also, when HR sent me an email about going to the second interview I reply her with thanks you email, but now it is driving me crazy to know how many interviewers advance to the second one (Were four people on the first on). It is ok to send her an email asking for how many interviewers advance to the second interview? She seem to be a nice person. Thanks

I would recommend not asking about how many interviewers made it to the second round like that. When you go to your second interview one of your questions could be asking how many candidates are they currently considering for the job. A different colour shirt/tie than the first interview would be a nice touch. Do you have a good red available? Red is a great power colour. If blue then make sure it is a good professional blue and nothing too somber as that will project stability and professionalism.

I would recommend against it. First of all, what good can be had? Secondly, when she visits the water cooler with any potential interviewer who knows what they could chat about. It can only do "bad" things, I know its driving you crazy and I have been there too, but just stick it out.

As far as the clothes go, meh, if its not super obvious (different shirt/tie/etc..) then I wouldnt worry to much about it. Good luck dude.
