not really familiar with tftp server, how would I go about updating my IOS from a tftp server. I have solarwinds tftp server, I have the IOS on disk. what commands would I use. I can ping both ways from my pc to the server, but don't know the appropriate commands. thanks

make sure your router has enough flash memory to store the IOS.. (check with sh version or sh flash)
once you have the image on your tftp server, from the router simply type
copy tftp flash
it will prompt you for more options such as the IP and location and filename.

Check your security settings on Solarwinds -- it may not be setup by default to let you download files. I think it defaults to receive files, but you can change it to send or send and receive.
Another usual problem with any TFTP server on a PC sending files is the PC OS firewall.
