Where are you pinging it from? Is it on the same switch? Through the Internet? Are they on the same subnet?
What are you using as the server? -

Connected how? Switch? Back-to-back with a cross-over cable (unless the device you can't ping the ftp server from is a switch -- then the standard straight cable is what you want).
If you ping the network address or network broadcast address from both sides, do you get arp entries on both devices?
Do you have link integrety LEDs on the tftp server network card? Activity indications when you ping? Same on the other end -- what is the device and does it have any LED indicators you can check?:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

romulus03 Member Posts: 33 ■■□□□□□□□□i am having the exact same problem. i have disabled the firewall, have good link lights on both ends of the cable. i have connected my ehternet port to the router with a crossover cable. also have assigned static ip address on the same subnet for the pc interface and the router interface,
but for the life of me, i still can't ping the tftp server. i have checked the security settings on tftp server, set it for send/receive, no good. even added the ip address ranges. still nothing. i had one error that said the remost host has rejected request. any thoughts? My Lab equip:

romulus03,
Questions:- When you mention "...my ehternet port..." the ethernet port for what device?
- What IP subnetwork and subnetwork mask are you using?
- What "...static ip address..." did you assign?
[list=1:910e4ba688] - What did you assign that static ip address to?

romulus03 Member Posts: 33 ■■□□□□□□□□basically i have the client pc and solwarinds tftp server on the same computer(will that work?). i am using a crossover cable to connect the pc ethernet port to the router ethernet port. configured the pc port to 150.150.48.1 and the router e0/0 to 150.150.48.0. disabled the firewall and allowed udp port 69 comms. now i can ping the tftp server from the router. still getting "tftp server not configured for get operations".My Lab equip:

romulus03,
Questions:- What subnet mask are you using?
- What kind of ethernet NIC do you have in your computer?
[list=1:095aa4fdbc] - Ethernet?
- FastEthernet?
- Gigabit Ethernet?
- Other?

Netwurk Member Posts: 1,155 ■■■■■□□□□□I guess we all know that being able to ping a device has nothing to do with tftp.
Ping is a very basic tool that has only recently been made complicated due to the paranoia of our good friends at Microsofft.
It's not that they are really paranoid - some executive talked them into blocking ping as a security show pony.
Double-check your XP or Vista firewall and make sure it is not blocking ICMP
And if I can inject politics in here for just a sec
Some overpaid idiot is probably impressed by the fact that they can't ping a Vista box
I can hear them now "Wow, that dang thing must be really secure if ya can't even ping it!"
