Problem with 2501 memory upgrade

motherwolfmotherwolf Member Posts: 117
Hey guys,

I ordered some memory for my 2501 so I could max it out at 16/16. I ordered it off eBay and it what was advertised as memory that would be compatible with older Boot ROM chips. I didn't want to have to replace the Boot ROM chips also. They're Intel chips and when I put them in and started a session this is what I got:

ERR: Invalid chip id 0x9155 (reversed = 0x89AA) detected in System flashcisco 2500 (68030) processor (revision D) with 16380K/2048K bytes of memory.
Processor board serial number 01787797
X.25 software, Version 2.0, NET2, BFE and GOSIP compliant.
Authorized for Enterprise software set. (0x0)
1 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface.
2 Serial network interfaces.
32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

Did I get scammed with bogus memory that actually does require a Boot ROM upgrade?

I'm not happy at the moment icon_evil.gif

Check the manufacturer of the flash chips. The older boot ROM only liked Intel ones.

My 2511 has the newer boot ROM and AMD chips on the flash card.

I stated in my post that they're Intel chips.

    Oops. Didn't notice that bit.

Odd. It may still need a boot ROM upgrade then. 89AA = Intel 28F016SC. I guess the vendor just looked and saw it was Intel. That specific model isn't in the allowed list of the 2500 boot ROM.
