8 gold medals?
Michael Phelps got number 5 and is still on for 8. For those of you who don't know he's a swimmer.
I watched him in the World Championships a couple of years ago when he was on for a hatful of medals. Looks like he may get his clean sweep of golds in Beijing the way he's performing.

From: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/olympics/2008/08/12/200.fly.ap/?cnn=yesOn Wednesday, Phelps swam into history as the winningest Olympic athlete ever with his 10th and 11th career gold medals -- and five world records in five events at the Beijing Games.
He's an amazing swimmer. I think he's beaten every event with a new WR and some of them even being 1-2 seconds faster than the WR. It's amazing to see how much of a lead he has over his components in the water. It's as if he's a machine!“For success, attitude is equally as important as ability.” - Harry F. Banks -

I love my country and I love sports; so this goes hand in hand. Phelps is an amazing individual, and I hope to see history soon.**** ARE FOR CHUMPS! Don't be a chump! Validate your material with certguard.com search engine

Slowhand Mod Posts: 5,161 ModThe guy's a serious machine. He spends about 5 hours in the pool everyday, training, and he burns through about 10,000 calories in the process. Apparently, he eats WHATEVER HE WANTS. Then again, if you were an 11-time Olympic gold medalist, so would you.

Hmm... Is complementing someone on their country's curling abilities actually a compliment?
Ok, I'll admit it. I've "curled" before... -

Well at the age of 10 he held a national record so don't be so down on yourself there. He's one of those folks that has the 'goods' and has been pointing in the right direction for a while now. Life throws up a few such people.
Mr Phelps is an outstanding athlete and no doubt found his calling early on in life backed along the way with the essential support to succeed. Who knows if he had taken a different path what might have transpired. He has talent and works very hard. It's good to see that recognised in any walk of life.
I hope he gets 8! -

Oh, good to know I'm 15 years behind, and not just two. That cheered me up a lot. Thanks.
Back on topic, I think it's pretty cool that you guys outside of the US are rooting for him. -

hehehe..now who's to say MP would be half as good as you in your line of work? Each to their own according to their measure!
I watched Phelps in the Worlds a couple of years ago so Im certainly looking out for him on TV here. I enjoy swimming myself but was never champion material. I just enjoy it and it's a great way to keep in shape. But it's not just the stars I look out for in the games, to my mind they are all champions to even be there. That's the cool thing about the Olympics. Even if you don't get a medal you are still an Olympian. -

Can't fault the guy. I'd be looking too. The day you stop looking and stop caring is the day you're as good as dead. Just as long as you're not a creep/pervert about it and you don't go for it (if you're married) -- like the next picture.
