OSPF Router ID (RID) ?

Hi everyone

I was wondering if you could solve my problem

Cisco press book says OSPF topology database consists of lists of subnet numbers, list of routers along with the links (subnets) to which each router is connected. To uniquely identify each router in the database, OSPF uses a concept called OSPF router ID (RID). SO it means OSPF Router's ID (RID) is in Topology Table (or Topology database )

On the other hand Todd Lammle books explains on page 446 that neighborhood database contains variety of information including Router ID ( RID)

Could you please explain which database actually contains RID.

Many Thanks

It's been a while since I last played with OSPF, but I remember that the RID was stored in the neighborship database. The topology database stores LSAs in order to keep track of the network layout and any updates relating to it.

    The answer is both.

The Neighbor table keeps track of both the Router ID, and the IP address used to reach that neighbor.

The LSA database will include the router ID of the router that orginated the LSA. This is why it is a bad thing if you have 2 routers with the same router ID.
