(set type=mx)

swansea.ac.uk

Any other interesting names?

    Non-authoritative answer:
    swansea.ac.uk MX preference = 4, mail exchanger = groucho.swan.ac.uk
    swansea.ac.uk MX preference = 4, mail exchanger = chico.swan.ac.uk
    swansea.ac.uk MX preference = 4, mail exchanger = harpo.swan.ac.uk

    swansea.ac.uk nameserver = dns2.swansea.ac.uk
    swansea.ac.uk nameserver = dns1.swansea.ac.uk
    swansea.ac.uk nameserver = clss1.bangor.ac.uk
    swansea.ac.uk nameserver = dns0.swansea.ac.uk
    dns0.swansea.ac.uk internet address = 137.44.1.20
    dns1.swansea.ac.uk internet address = 137.44.1.46
    dns2.swansea.ac.uk internet address = 137.44.1.27

Cute, but a pain in the arse to administer.

Our Unix admin has a test box named Slarty, as in Slartibartfast from Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. However he only manages 4 servers (fortunately the other three were named before we hired him) so he can keep his trivial and useless names straight. Since I have to manage way more servers in multiple locations - and multiple domains once upon a time - my server names have to make sense. I use a combination of DomainAbbreviation-Location-Function(number) so I can keep track of everything. Believe me, it's much easier to manage things when you know that MS-SEA-DNS01 is the primary DNS server in Seattle that it is to remember what function the HurlingFrootmig server does.

Planets and various mythological gods are common, but one company here in FL had servers named after Category 5 Hurricanes.

Many of our clients have names. A couple of the churches are Genesis & Exodus. In house we used to have Bob - now we have Nigel .... lord knows where those names came from icon_lol.gif

The university my father works at has boring names for the outward facing machines but internally they use a LotR naming scheme with some constellations from the previous admin as well.
