Well this is my first real gig after the military. I'm wondering what to expect. Hopefully the day goes well. :Dicon_eek.gif

    Good luck!

My first gig after the military took a bit of adjustment, but it didn't take long. Just remember not to stand at parade rest for your boss. icon_lol.gif

Good luck Soldier! It will take a little time to reprogram yourself back into the Civi state of mind. It's been awhile for me and I still catch myself speaking and acting like I was still in. That sometimes catches people off gaurd if they are not used to being around "priors." Most priors tend to stick together as well in the work place, something in our blood. Be careful of the "high strung" or "agressive" nature, some employee's can get that impression, especially if they insecure in their own abilities.

People that interract with you, depending on your MOS or type of work in the military... being gung ho can be a double edged sword. Just use your background to your advantage and work hard though, it will get you noticed if your employer is sharp. Be careful not to get that sense of "loyalty" abused, I had a couple employers that used that to their advantage and with my limited "real world" experience at the time, it was easy to **** myself in the longrun. Either way, I am sure you will do good!

True. Although, in the South it's a common thing to say and comes second nature. I have actaully offended people from the Northern states and UK when I interract with them by calling them sir or ma'am. Parade rest will have them icon_rolleyes.gif ...

Oddly enough, even though I've been out of the military since 01, I still sir and ma'am with everyone until I build up a report with them.

It's a professional courtesy thing and if it bothers them they will hopefully politely ask you to call them by their first name or whatever.

But eh, do what you feel comfortable with at first, you'll get the hang of civy protocol soon enough.

Same here, I always sir and ma'am. Its been ingrained in me by family and being in the military, so I doubt I will ever stop. If I do I might get slapped by my grandmother!

Good luck, let us know how it goes! I've been out for 10 months today, didn't find it too hard to adjust.

I just got out 2 weeks ago. I had around 5 offers before I got out. A few defense contractors, and the 1 telecom that I took a job at.

good luck with the job man! I just got a job offer for a sys admin job that I was hoping for and go in Tuesday to work out the salary. Been in 12 years and sometimes find myself acting too "military".

You will learn that when a meeting is scheduled at 9:00, it will actually start around 9:15. When I first got out and entered the civilian work sector, I had to stop showing up 15 minutes before a scheduled meeting or I would be waiting around for a half hour.

I still do I can't help myself. I still show up to work or meetings about 15 - 30 min early when the rest of the people come rolling in either on time or 15 min late.
