Possibly looking to change to a Computer Teacher.....

I am possibly thinking of down the road to become a school computer teacher. I was curious if anyone has already taken this route and if so, is a teaching degree needed or a teaching certificate? This is a long term goal considering they dont make very much money, but it could be a nice change of pace.

Plus the time off would be really nice.

Thanks.

I think it would depend on the type of school. Are we talking grade school or college?

And if you are talking certification courses, you will need to attain and/or attend the instructor courses and certification for the respective vendors, i.e. MCT for Microsoft and CCSI for Cisco.

In my MBA Program, all of my instructors have etierh MBA's or Doctorates in the fields that they are instructing. Some are full-time and some are part-time, with all of them having some experience in the subject they are instructing. I know for a fact that the instructors that are teaching the Information Technology portion do not hold teaching degrees or anything like that. I am not sure if they have to be certified or something by the state to teach...

I would imagine that you need a teaching degree and/or certificate.

In California, a teaching credential is required for teaching high school and below. The only exception is for parents home-schooling their own children. I assume a teaching credential is required by other states as well.

From my understanding, you can obtain a teaching credential in your field of study if you have a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in that subject. Sort of an extension program to train you to teach whatever it is you specialize in.
