im shooting for r&s written at the end of this year and the lab the end of next....but i am only hopeful at this point i will jus have to see what happens.

update...after further thought i decided to give the written a go im still kinda fresh off of CCNP and I have gone through the exam guide, cbt nuggets and some cisco docs so I figure I have a good chance of getting through. Im jus eager to start focusing 100% on the lab because I know that is where I will learn more and reinforce everything I already know.

I got it 2mrw so will update when I can, hopefully im not jumping the gun icon_scratch.gif

I think I shall throw my name into the pool... CCIE in 2009 seems quite possible for me... but if it takes me to 2010 or 2011 that's ok too :D

i am really thinking about it. well, clearing 50 percent of it i mean by at least attempting the written. i don't have the $ yet to build the lab that i want. icon_cool.gif

Written = 12% of it, maybe.

I may attempt the CCIE security lab at some point, not sure if it will be in the next year. I noticed there are no seats available in all of the locations in February which I guess is an indication that they are going to be changing something.

He scheduled it.... and supposedly paid for it (I didn't see the receipt!)

I will get at least 1 attempt in this year....... CCIE Security

Im there or there abouts. Just revising everything now. I will have some mock exams through January and February. Then I need to pass the written. Once that is cleared it's schedule lab exam. End of March? April? Depends on slots.

Ya I haven't looked at the schedule since I booked mine back in July. I know Brussels gets pretty busy though.

Update... it's been a while but I had passed my written exam in november, then I had to jump into filling a role for Advanced Routing and Switching so that took up sometime for me. I think I did pretty well on the written with 93%, but as dtlokee said thats only 12% icon_sad.gif .

Since that I have been focusing a lot on the areas I did badly in on the written QoS, IPv6 and Multicast, funny how the ones I did badly in are the ones i like the least. I know it's gonna be a long road but hopefully one day soon I will get there so that I can have an avatar like MrD :D

    Good luck all!!!

Good luck to you too. 'Areas you did badly on in the written' ? With 93%? I doubt I will get such a high mark when I take it in a months time. Sounds like your theory is fine. Plan out some rack time!

Still working in that direction. We will see what happens after done with DP/IP.icon_wink.gif
    I usually hang out on 224.0.0.10 (FF02::A) and 224.0.0.5 (FF02::5) when I'm in a non-proprietary mood.

I think it would be cool to do the written this year, but I guess the determining factor in whether i can study for it or not, will have to be what people in a relationship calls a "mutual agreement" :) As everyone here knows, it really takes alot of time away from "quality-time".

The service provider track is also very appealing to me.
    Studying for CCNP (All done)

Good luck with that. Try and get the written done this year. It's actually a decent acid test in terms of what is tolerable on the homefront. Written prep is more 'home friendly' than lab prep in my experience as racktime necessary takes up whole chunks of your day. How you go with your written prep will be a useful barometer of how aggressive or relaxed your lab preparations need to be in order to keep everything tolerable at home.

On that note, you have to get buy in from the people around you to succeed at this thing as it's a big sacrifice for them too and it's going to be a regular thing, unsocial and will take a very long time. Jeff Doyle has some splendid advice on this in Appendix C in Routing TCP/IP Volume I second edition,

sic ' Be realistic when you design your schedule, taking into consideration the predictability (or lack of) of both your job and your personal life. The level of support you can expect from your employer and your family is an important factor in deciding whether your preparation schedule should be intensive or more relaxed. Exceeding the tolerance of those close to you will hurt your schedule far more than help it.'

In other words, love your wife, like your lab :)

Mark me up for September as my written exam. Don't know how realistic that is, as I'm getting married in October, but we shall see. Hoping to take my lab mid 2010 if things stay on track.

All things are subject to change.

Call me arrogant, but put me down for the end of the year! I look forward to the ribbing if I fail.
