Cloud Nine!

I had a 4 part interview for a Information Systems Technician today 9am-11am and at 3pm I got a call saying they would like to extent the job offer to me out of the 12 candidates!!!

I was out tonight celebrating my step into the world of IT. THE DOOR IS FINALLY OPEN!

I'll be level 1 desktop/help desk support for about 2,000 employees in a HUGE building.

Congratulations, sounds like a great opportunity! I hope you learn a whole lot, and that you have a lot of fun doing it. You'll have to give us an update at some point, and report back on how things are going and what kinds of tasks they're having you do.

    Thanks so much guys.

They said they have 5 guys in the IT department and I will be the 6th.
They obviously have a ticket system like most help desks, using Windows XP and not sure what else at this point.

They said they will be very helpful if I need assistance and flexible with my school schedule. I'm going to be studying my 70-270 really hard now, what else do you guys think would be a good resource for a Help Desk role?

The Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) might be a good cert to pick up.

You're under 21, aren't you? I hope that means you had a few cherry cokes at an arcade.

Congratulations. I'm glad to see your hard work and determination paid off.

Yeah I'm 20 so I definitely had shots of cherry coke at the local arcade. Ran out of quarters pretty quick too.

Thanks everyone for the congratulation, and I'm going to look into the Desktop Support certification.

CONGRATULATIONS! Now the hard work begins my friend.

BTW, It's hilarious how you americans can't drink till 21. By then I had "given up" booze at least 3 times.

Great news on your new position - well done! It's odd how in the UK employers barely recognise CompTIA qualifications, when I went for my last job interview the ICT Co-Ordinator didn't even know about CompTIA, he was only interested in M$ certs. CompTIA need to market themselves some more in Europe!

Best of luck for the future mate!!!!

P.S. is it right that in America you can drive at 16, but not drink until you're 21?

Well I'm very interested in software and programming so I had to get the A+ to prove I know SOMETHING about hardware icon_lol.gif

Because finding a entry level programming job is 100 times harder then finding a entry level desktop support job, especially one that works with school schedules. (At least in my area)

And yes you can drive at 16 and not drink until you're 21... you can also serve your country in the military wielding weapons at 18... pretty lame but that's the price you pay in the "land of the free"...

I start this Monday! I'm extremely excited and do not know what to expect.

I understand what a Help Desk does but I want to be as knowledgeable as possible.

4 guys including me running the IT department for 2,000-3,000 CSR's is crazy!
