Ok here is the deal .. work for a state agency that is going through the outsourcing proces.
I figure now is about as good as anytime to jump out into the world of contract work. I figure that if you cant beat them might as well join them.
I have heard horror stories about contract companies lowballing their workers just to get the contract.
What are some of the tricks of the trade with consultant work and who are the better companies to work with.

I'm a consultant and I'm not like that and either is my company. We are actually truthful to our clients and have the clients best interests in mind. If we can't do something for them, we say that. We've lost clients before due to honesty but believe that our honesty will have clients coming back to us after they have troubles with the others lying to them. I know a lot of consulting companies are dishonest, but I'm damn happy to not be in one of them.“For success, attitude is equally as important as ability.” - Harry F. Banks -
GT-Rob Member Posts: 1,090haha I was going to put it in my post but forgot.
I am referring to companies that hire people to be consultants. IE contract companies. Since he mentioned them.
Consultants I have no problem with, and technically am one myself aswell. Sorry for the confusion :P -
RATTLERMAN Member Posts: 151Just looking for some pointers with dealing with them. It seems like some companies have the temp to perm thing . I hear matrix resources are ok and to stay away from robert half. I have also heard stay away from the small staffing agencies and only deal with the bigger ones. I am just trying to get into the game. It looks like "state employees " are going to be offered a position with dell . I am not sure if I am ok with that but I guess I will have to wait and see
Thanx for the responses and keep them coming -

robert half has always just jerked me around. Gave me appointments at horrible times, had me waste a few hours, and never find me anyway work. They would give me periodic updates though."Check both the destination and return path when a route fails." "Switches create a network. Routers connect networks."
