Do you guys know what topics are covered in essentials ?!

the book has 1300 pages and i want to just focus on the essentials then move on to 602.

Have you downloaded and reviewed the objectives from Comptia?

    'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird?

I would read the whole book. Mike shows some sections that will pertain to Depot Technician, Remote Support, or IT Technician. The vast majority of people taking the A+, usually go with IT Technician after Essentials.
If you are having trouble getting through the book, try to read smaller sections at a time. The CD that comes with the book has some videos on it, along with practice tests, and free ware.
