Another September success!

undomielundomiel Member Posts: 2,818
Finally getting a real job! No more having to do CAD projects and setting IT to the side. I just got the call and I've scored the government job here in Phoenix. A little disappointed that I couldn't pull off any of the out of state jobs but that's ok. A few more years of experience will look good. I'm being brought in for a Senior Network Administrator position. Pay bump will be over 20k which will make my wife really happy for the prospects of paying off the debt. The commute will suck a whole lot more so some of the first paychecks will be going for a car for me but that's ok. I'm just super duper excited about the whole thing! Vaulting from network administrator for a small company that has me doing more AutoCAD projects than IT projects to being a senior network administrator for a government department. I still have to go through a physical before they go through with the official offer but that's ok since I'm not about to fall over dead the last I checked. I'm looking to start a week from Monday.

Woohooooo!!! I made it! Time to break out the Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider! drunken_smilie.gificon_lol.gif

As said in our IM, Adam and I are going to have to celebrate properly in your stead this weekend drunken_smilie.gif

Seriously though, I'm really happy for you. You've shared a few horrors of your current position, and I'm really glad you're able to move on to something bigger and better. You've busted your ass to get where you are, and you definitely deserve this.

    Grats

Remember 2 years bums on seat and keep studying.

Finally get a break so use it wisely. The next move should be for at least 10k more in 2-3 years. Sounds strange I know but I been doing this a long time. Start working on the next step up the day before day 1 of the new job.

    Enjoy and well done again.
    Kam.

Thanks for the congratulations! No worries Kaminsky, this frees up my evenings finally to get back to my RHCE studies. :) The plan is tentatively to be around for a year and half or two years and then finally get out of the Phoenix heat to somewhere that has 4 seasons a year. The experience I'll be gaining here should make me valuable enough to relocate I sure hope. Hopefully a larger increase than 10k as well but I'll be fine with 10k. :)

that's great news, undomiel!! With that current list of certs and expereince you have got, this was almost inevitable, perhaps a little delayed (more than a little delayed, I guess). Keep up the good work mate.

you are from AZ, right? If you have to go to a different city for this gig, how are your plans for moving? That's one heck of a project in itself.

    congratulations once again icon_thumright.gif

Thanks for the grats. :) The Martinelli's was sure yummy! The physical seems to be a state requirement. I just wish I could hit fast forward to where I quit the old job! Can't wait til Monday to start the new one. Already setting up a Server 2008 lab at home to get up to speed with that in the meanwhile.

No need for moving with this job Essendon. It's still in Phoenix just not next door like my current job. We might move up to Scottsdale just to make the commute a little easier for me and a lot easier for my wife. But we have 3 cats so that may make it hard to find an apartment.

Well I got poked and prodded and told I was fit for consumption. Or work. I wasn't quite clear which. Apparently my hearing is good as well which is something I've worried about. I'll just have to ask the wife to speak up then.

Yeah, I can see that being the apartment 5 years from now. :D

Well this is a bit frustrating, my start date has gotten pushed back. Good thing I haven't quit my current job yet otherwise my finances would be really screwed up by that. The frustrating part was that I was really looking forward to quitting too.

Normally I would but the situation changed. My hours have been cut in half so I'm losing money working there. If I turned in my notice I would be let go on the spot. So I have to keep some money trickling in and then I will be quitting the day before starting the new job. We can't afford the cessation in income no matter how small.

If you know that turning in notice will mean being let go on the spot, why not do that your last day?

That way you didn't "just quit," but you "turned in a notice."

I already have my reference and official letterhead recommendation letters from the company thanks to a cool supervisor who sadly no longer works here. The guy they have taking over IT has already been given all of the info that he requested. So my picking up my paycheck at the end of the day and saying I quit will have very little impact upon production.

So you were doing all of the IT stuff in addition to the AutoCAD stuff, and they go and hire someone else to take over IT? That, coupled with their views about you getting certifications, and I wouldn't blame you one bit for no notice.

    Sweet!

I'm really happy for you. I know you have busted your hump and the pieces are coming together nicely for you.

Tomorrow I will be throwing a few back in honor of you (and maybe another reason).

Well it wasn't really a hire more of a consolidation of resources. They're using the administrator from their sister company to cover the IT stuff over here. I am looking forward to hearing what happens when something goes wrong with the Linux server. :) But they trust him a whole lot more than me. Which is scary because he doesn't know how to deploy proxy settings via group policy and doesn't know what IPSEC is. See why I can't wait to get out of here? :D
