How they work?

I read that expansion servers are used when have been mail-enabled Groups Domain-Local or Global, in order to get information of members which are defined in domains other than the Group belongs.

Any help appreciated.

At first since I was ignorant of many previous Exchange terms I thought you were talking about the infrastructure fsmo role holding machine lol...

seems like it does a semi ok job of describing it. Unfortunately thats all I got
