Do these 2 exams overlap each other anyhow?(Linux+ and RHCE)

mikeszmikesz Member Posts: 115
Good evening Everybody,
I'm newbie to Linux, and thinking of taking on both Linux exams (Linux+, RHCE).
I was wondering if anyone knows, if the material (objectives) for these 2 exams overlap each other in any degree?

I would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks
Long term plan:
2011: CCNA (70%), CCNA: Security, MCITP:Messaging
2012: VCP, CEH, Linux+, start RHCA/E
2013: finish RHCA/E, CCNP

Quite a bit. You can think of Linux+ as the cert for beginners. Red Hat cert goes deeper and is definately vendor specific. Linux+ might be a good place to start. icon_cool.gif

For sure. The RHCE is a difficult lab-based exam. The Linux+ is only the tip of the iceberg.

They are going to overlap as they are the same material. But they are on a whole other level from one and other.

    Take a look at this

    and then this

Not to confuse matters, but you gave a link to LPI -- a very different Linux exam compared to the one he was asking about, Linux+.
    MCSE 2003, MCSA 2003, LPIC-1, MCP, MCTS: Vista Config, MCTS: SQL Server 2005, CCNA, A+, Network+, Server+, Security+, Linux+, BSCS (Information Systems)

As others have stated, Linux+ is an entry level "multiple choice" based exam. RHCE is a full day "hands-on" lab based exam.

You might want to start with Linux+, then go for the LPIC, then see if you can even afford the RHCE. Its quite expensive, especially when you throw in the travel associated costs involved. icon_cool.gif

I see that you can not take Red Hat exams at Prometric or Vue, so you must have to take their exams at their testing locations. I have been reading about the LPI exams, and I understand at this point they offer 3 levels. Does anyone know what level is equals Red Hat's level? For Example: RHCE is equal to a LPI 2....you get the picture.

    thank you,

I don't think there's a direct correlation, but it's probably around the third.
