Sybex or MS Press

I have been reading here that the MS Press 270 book is about a 1400 page tome, hard to follow and retain. I know I will have a headstart since I have the 290 and 291 out of the way, but what would you guys suggest I buy for this test, Sybex or MS Press. I have heard of good reviews for the Sybex series, so before I buy, please advise.

Hey looks like the Sybex 270 book was written in 2003. We are in 2008 now, I am sure the exam must have changed considerably since then. Was reading the reviews on Amazon and recent testers seem to say that the book's outdated and many things on the test are not even mentioned in the book. True??

With the exception of the design exam books, the other common exam books from MS Press are about 50% practice questions. To be honest, I felt like both books were lacking for exam prep, so be sure you use Transcender or some other resource as well. Also, the Second Edition was published in 2005.

Have been able to get both books off a friend. The Sybex does seem to be better written and is about 400 pages less than the MS Press one. Let's see what happens. Thanks for the advice.

All MS Press books are hard to follow. But for this course, I used the MS Press book and was able to pass with an 800 score.

True. Remember your vendor is based off the MS Press book, not Sybex.

valid point Mmartin_47, i meant just to retain the concepts its cool to have more than one source, at least i find that to be the case.

Yeah always a good idea too. Sybex tends to break down the topic in easier, to understand terms.

Yeah, I need to supplement either book with other resources. Transcender and that XP Fast Pass book should be enough for the test I guess. Any other resource any of you find useful? I dont just want to pass the test.

just my own 2 cents, but i'd pick up the MS Press behemoth and Sybex, they are a both good compliment to each other.
