I currently have 2 1720 routers. Is that enough for CCENT. I heard from a friend of mine that the 851 is better because of SDM. Also do I need to buy a switch for CCENT and ICND2 or can I just use routers?
Thanks

Slowhand Mod Posts: 5,161 ModIf you're going all-out and buying equipment to practice with, definitely pick up at least one switch. I'd recommend a 2950, that'll set you up for working not only on the CCENT/CCNA exams, but is still quite useful for more advanced Cisco certifications. I picked on up on eBay for about $100, so they're not terribly expensive.

beach5563 Member Posts: 344 ■■■□□□□□□□Thanks for the quick reply. Thats actually what I was thinking. Money is a little tight and I already have two 1720s so I will just go for the switch for now. I just want to get CCENT first and then maybe when I start on ICND2 I can add to my lab little by little. I have had a few CCNA classes so I've already had some hands on with the routers, its just that its been a while.
Thanks again -

Nothing is better than real equipment, but you for sure don't have to go balls out for this exam buying equipment.
But if you want to spend the money then go for it. Its your money.
You might want some routers and switched for the ICND2 exam. But that still is not necessary.
