Which distro for a file server on Windows network?

One of my clients has a decomissioned Windows server that no longer has a Windows license. They want to turn it into a file server, mostly to be used as backup storage. I haven't really gotten into the different Linux distros too much. Which would you suggest for this situation?
CERTS: VCDX #110 / VCAP-DCA #500 (v5 & 4) / VCAP-DCD #10(v5 & 4) / VCP 5 & 4 / EMCISA / MCSE 2003 / MCTS: Vista / CCNA / CCENT / Security+ / Network+ / Project+ / CIW Database Design Specialist, Professional, Associate

Anything that runs Samba will work. I like RedHat, but that takes a license now so you can use Fedora or CentOS.
