What options do I have to get an email notification when ever a specific Event ID is put into the eventvwr?

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,089 AdminWindows Vista and Server 2008 have advanced monitoring/filtering features for the Windows event logs not in Windows XP and Server 2003, but I'm not sure about email notification. There are many third-party event log monitoring tools that have quite a few notification options, but I don't know any free ones that work with SMTP. Check out the free version of Snare for Windows and see if it does.

Or try OSSEC - www.ossec.net . You'll need to create a linux server (a simple VM will do and it's very easy to install and configure for email alerts). Besides the rest of it's HIDS functions it parses the windows event log for a number of preconfigured events, and you can create your own rule (and suppress those you don't need). It'd be a bigger investment in time but completely free and very powerful.We responded to the Year 2000 issue with "Y2K" solutions...isn't this the kind of thinking that got us into trouble in the first place?
