Asus P5NE - SLI
I have had it booting fine to my SATA when I have an IDE connected with XP installed so I dont think this issue is my mobo. -
OptionsJDMurray Admin Posts: 13,039 AdminAll Asus mobo manuals are available online. Here's the page for the P5N-E SLI.
You need to check if the motherboard's drivers--including the disk controller drivers--are different for Vista and XP. While you are downloading the manuals, also download and install the latest mobo drivers for Vista. I see a JMicron JMB36X SATA/PATA Controller Driver V1.17.3.2 for Windows 32bit/64bit Vista listed.

OptionsLee H Member Posts: 1,135the issue i had were i was pressing F8 to boot my SATA is now resolved
i assumed that if you dont press any key to boot from CD it would then go to your hard drive of choice in the hard drive list as SATA was at the top
changed it to Hard Drive and now it works
odd one that
Thanks for your help JD i tried what you said which then led me to try changing boot sequence
