AC-97 Audio driver issues

SilentsoulSilentsoul Member Posts: 260
Someone brought me a gateway laptop, mx6450. Amd turion 64 mobile. ati 200m video card. Windows XP sp3.
I finally got all the correct drivers installed with the exception of two.

One is the mass storage device which I am not worried about.

The second is the audio AC 97. It installs and gives me and error 10 "device could not start."

I have tried every driver i can find, from Gateway, AMD, ATI. I got nothing.

Any ideas?

Ironically drivers have been causing me fits at work too.
Ive got an Acer that will not take wireless drivers, and like 40 Dell 755's that the SM bus driver will not stay put. I am very unhappy with Dell and their 755's with XP. Sorry Ranting,

Thanks for th help

Do you need the Universal Audio Architecture package?

Does the laptop have a driver download section on its support Web page? Are there any other people on the manufacturer's support forum complaining about this same problem with this model laptop?

yes there are people complaining about the audio issues all over.

As far as all the drivers being available on gateways website. They are not. I have tried each of them one at a time.

It sounds similar to the Gateway problems I had at my previous job. If I recall correctly I had to download the reference drivers from realtek. Or I might have used some Dell drivers from a similar chipset. I'd say give both a try.

I finally found the fix after two days. Everything I did pointed to ac97 drivers. I ended up installing HP conextant drivers to get it working.
